ProEx was honored to sponsor the 25th and final Sapienza Memorial Road Race and Health Walk held July 21st in Haverhill, MA. The 4 mile race is in memory of Tony Sapienza who suffered a heart attack after breaking the American Master's record for 3000 meters in 1987. In addition to being a dedicated father, teacher and coach, Sapienza was an avid runner. He placed 4th in the Boston Marathon and won 33 New England Championship medals throughout his life. Proceeds from the race go toward a scholarship, in his name, for Haverhill High School graduates.
At the ProEx tent, race participants were given the option to have a physical therapist provide a manual stretch before and after the race. ProEx PT's were also on hand to evaluate injured runners and offer treatment options for their injury. In addition, staff members answered questions and handed out free giveaways to passersby. ProEx also raffled off an Ipod Nano which was very popular with the crowd.
"This was a great day. It was a nice tribute too as over 200 runners came out," said Karen Murphy, Clinic Manager of ProEx Haverhill. "And it's important to us at ProEx to educate the community on ways to prevent injuries."
