Achilles Tendonitis Treatment in Boston MA, NH, and CT

Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles Tendonitis involves pain in the large tendon at the back of your ankle known as the Achilles Tendon.  This pain is caused from an inflammation and breakdown of the tendon from overuse.  The onset of pain is known as Acute Achilles Tendonitis, but left untreated can become Chronic Achilles Tendonitis.

This condition often occurs with strenuous activity like running fast or up hills, where the tendon has to stretch and contract rapidly, but can also be caused by weak calf muscles which put more strain on the achilles.  Symptoms of both Acute and Chronic Achilles Tendonitis include pain in the back of the ankle over the heel.  The ankle can be stiff and painful at the beginning and end of exercise, and be painful to the touch.  Pain can potentially progress to a stage where it is constant even with activities like walking up stairs or hills.
